A plain-spoken promise

Some things never go out of style.

Good craftsmanship. A firm handshake. And a dependable tube sock.

Founded in 1933 by Terrence “Terry” Bartholomew in Akron, Ohio, Terry's Terrific Tube Socks began with a simple ambition: to manufacture the finest, most comfortable, and most extraordinary socks the American public had ever seen.

Terry was no ordinary businessman. A traveling salesman, amateur naturalist, and self-proclaimed hosiery visionary, he believed that superior socks demanded extraordinary thinking.

“

These aren't ordinary wool socks. They're made from the fibers of endangered species!

From the company ledger

A history of innovation

Five decades of uncommon ideas, uncompromising comfort, and one very familiar red stripe.

The Early Years

From a modest Akron facility, Terry introduced his signature cream-colored tube sock with distinctive red stripes. Farmers, factory workers, outdoorsmen, and gentlemen of discerning taste took notice.

The Golden Age

Independent department stores and sporting-goods retailers carried Terry's throughout the Midwest. Every sock was promised to be “a little piece of natural history.”

Changing Times

As synthetics transformed textiles and wildlife protections reshaped sourcing, Terry's transitioned toward alternative materials. Devotees maintained that the originals were without equal.

The Final Chapter

Competition, changing tastes, and rising costs took their toll. After more than five decades, the machinery was sold and the red-striped socks quietly left store shelves.

For nearly forty years, the Terry's name survived in yellowed advertisements, family albums, and the memories of devoted customers.

A new chapter begins

After 40 years,
Terry's is back.

Terry's Terrific Tube Socks has been acquired by a descendant of the company's founder, with plans to restore this historic American brand to its former glory.

The first priority: the return of the original Terry's Terrific Tube Sock, featuring classic cream-colored construction and the unmistakable red-striped design.

Manufacturing techniques and material sourcing have evolved considerably since 1933. The mission has not.
